  73. This package contains the CONTACT PLUS (R) PERSONAL 97 SYSTEM by CONTACT
  74. PLUS CORPORATION. This document contains only a brief description along
  75. with instructions for its installation.  Detailed documentation is
  76. included in the package, but it is in archived form, and is more easily
  77. read after installation.

  79. If you've been trying to keep track of your clients using a conventional
  80. phone book, rolodex or other simple name and address book program then
  81. Contact Plus Personal 97 is for you.  Contact Plus Personal helps you
  82. keep your contacts organized into multiple databases.  You may have a
  83. personal database of your softball team, a database of interested clients
  84. for your business, a database of the members of the choir and want to
  85. keep all of this information in one standard place.

  87. This version includes a handy built-in map which includes the timezones,
  88. area codes and distances between you and your contacts.

  90. Contact Plus Personal 97 provides an intuitive easy to use way of keep
  91. track of your contacts, letters to each contact, notes, phone calls,

  106. appointment as alarms can be set in advance of your meetings.  Drag and
  107. drop capability on the calendars make scheduling a breeze.

  110. includes all features of the program, and is not crippled in any way.
  111. You may use it for up to 30 days without charge. If you like the program,
  112. and wish to continue its use after this evaluation period, you are

  114. (disk vendors, dealers, etc.) to obtain this evaluation version was a fee

  144. ===== Installation =====================================

  146. The installation procedure for Contact Plus Personal 97 is quite simple.
  147. The package includes a program, "SETUP.EXE", which automates the entire
  148. process.  You will need about 7 megabytes of available disk space on the
  149. hard drive on which you plan to install Contact Plus Personal 97.
  150.  
  151. The exact steps you need to take will depend on how you received
  152. Contact Plus Personal for Windows.

  154. INSTALLING FROM DISKETTES
  155.  
  156. To install from diskette(s), you need to perform the following steps.
  157.  
  158.    o  Place the distribution diskette "Disk 1" in the
  159.       appropriate diskette drive.
  160.  
  161.    o  Execute the "SETUP.EXE" program on the distribution diskette.
  162.       For example, if the distribution diskette is on drive A: from
  163.       Program Manager run the command: "A:SETUP".
  164.  
  165.    o  Follow the instructions presented by the installation program.
  166.       You will have a chance to approve installation before any changes
  167.       are actually made to the contents of your hard drive.  The
  168.       program will ask you for a destination directory, and will copy
  169.       the files to that directory.  If you received the product
  170.       on more than one diskette, you will need to insert subsequent
  171.       diskettes when asked to do so.

  174. INSTALLING FROM A HARD DRIVE
  175.  
  176. If you downloaded Contact Plus Personal 97 from a BBS (or received it in
  177. the form of archive files from some other source), you will need to
  178. perform the following steps.
  179.  
  180.    o  Extract the contents of the archive file(s) in a temporary
  181.       directory on your hard drive.  The procedure for doing this
  182.       varies, depending on the form in which you received the package.
  183.       In all likelihood, the fact that you are reading this text means
  184.       that you already have the necessary tools and knowledge to
  185.       perform this step.  If not, you should be able to obtain
  186.       directions for this from the same source from which you received
  187.       the package.
  188.  
  189.    o  Execute the "SETUP.EXE" program which you have extracted.  For
  190.       example, if the temporary directory into which you have extracted
  191.       the <product> package is C:\TEMPDIR, you would execute the
  192.       command, "c:\tempdir\SETUP".

  194.    o  Follow the instructions presented by the installation program.
  195.       You will have a chance to approve installation before any changes
  196.       are actually made to the contents of your hard drive.  The
  197.       program will ask you for a destination directory, and will copy
  198.       the product files to that directory.  If you so direct it, the
  199.       installation program will install executable programs and
  200.       documentation in other directories of your choice.

  202. When you're satisfied that the installation was successful, you should
  203. delete the temporary directory FROM which you installed the product
  204. (C:\TEMPDIR, in the above discussion), including all its contents.

  207. DATABASE ENGINE INSTALLATION
  208.  
  209. Contact Plus for Windows uses the 32-bit Borland Database Engine.  This
  210. is a powerful database engine that can be used by other applications.  It
  211. should be installed in your C: drive as Borland recommends.  The database
  212. engine consumes about 3.5 Megabytes.
  213.  
  214. The database engine is automatically installed when SETUP is run.  Do
  215. not delete the database engine since it is necessary to run Contact Plus
  216. Personal successfully.
  217.  
  218. Note that the default settings for the Borland Database Engine is
  219. 'paradox ascii'.  If you are working in a language other than english
  220. you may change the default by running the BDECFG32.exe program.

  222. UNINSTALLATION
  223.  
  224. To uninstall, go to Control Panel and select Add/Remove Programs.  You
  225. will see Contact Plus Personal 97 as one of the choices.  CLick on the
  226. remove button.
  227.  
  228. The uninstallation program will also uninstall the Borland Database
  229. Engine.
  230.  
  231. If you are running Windows '95 then you can instead uninstall Contact
  232. Plus Personal for Windows using the Add/Remove Programs available under
  233. the Control Panel Group.

  235. YOU'RE READY TO GO

  237. Once you've complete the installation, you should consult the help files
  238. and coaches which have been installed.

  240. If you decide that Contact Plus Personal is not for you there is an
  241. automatic uninstall procedure which will remove all installed files
  242. restoring your system to it's state before the install.
